Bream - what kind of fish is it?
To seasoned anglers bream does not need special introduction or praise. However, if you are just beginning your adventure with fishing, it is worth learning more about this species. Bream is a very tasty and healthy freshwater fish, which belongs to the same family of fish as carp.
In many ways bream are absolutely unique. These freshwater fish breed in May and June. Very interesting is their spawning. The process of reproduction can be observed from the shore, as bream swim to the shallows and spawn en masse. The bream fry grows quite slowly, needing at least eight years to reach a length of about 30 cm.
An adult can reach a weight of more than 6 kg and a body length of more than 70 cm. A distinctive feature of bream is the protruding mouth, thanks to which they are very good at collecting food. The bream is a herd fish. Shoals of bream usually number several or a dozen individuals.
The breamfishing season lasts from June to the end of September. However, this does not mean that you can't catch this fish in the spring or during the warm autumn. During these periods you can also count on a successful catch. According to current regulations, there is no size or closed period for bream. However, it is good practice to release smaller individuals so that they can grow and reproduce freely. It is worth knowing that bream reach sexual maturity only around 3-7 years of age.
Bream prefer food that shows no signs of movement, so they can be comfortably fished with a method feeder set. Check out how to hunt bream in spring!
Where are bream found?
You can find bream practically everywhere. It is commonly found in medium and large rivers, lakes and dammed reservoirs. This species often lives in weakly saline waters with a characteristic muddy bottom.
If you want to catch bream using a method feeder set, you must first locate it. The basis will be the selection of a suitable body of water. The next step is to find shallow and densely covered with submerged and emerged vegetation places with the hardest bottom. A very good choice, for example, will be the tops with varied and undulating bottoms, as well as the area around the thickets and reeds.
The depth of the fishery should not be too deep. Bream are best caught at a depth of 2 to 5 meters. This parameter usually depends on the season and the peculiarities of the reservoir. The colder it is outside, the greater the depth of the fishing ground you should choose.
What kind of set for method feeder to choose?
Bream do not put a lot of resistance during the haul, so for their fishing you will not need a rod with high power. In this case, it is worth betting on a model with a length of 3.00, 3.30 or 3.60 meters.
Length feeder rod should be matched to individual preferences and the conditions that prevail in the fishery. No less important will be the choice of a suitable reel. To make good use of the potential of method feeder, choose a model dedicated to this method with a size of 3000-4000.
To catch bream you will also need a through-mounted set. A through-mounted line should have a diameter of no less than 0.20 mm. If you are fishing at a distance, you will also need a shot leader, which protects the set from breaking. For this, choose a 20-30 g container with open sides. The last element of the method feeder set is the leader, which should be no more than 15 cm long and a size 8-10 hook with a short shank.
With such a set you will be perfectly prepared to catch bream in the spring!
Bait and bait for spring bream
Bream do not have great requirements in terms of food. To catch them, anglers can successfully use standard bait, such as pellets for method feeders or other ready-made mixtures.
You will also catch bream on cake, puffer, white worms, red worms, corn worms, protein balls, wolf rods or bread. What can induce bream to consume bait is a slightly sweeter taste. To achieve this effect, add a small amount of molasses or corn syrup to the mix.
If you want to fish for bream on a method feeder, you should also think carefully about how to serve the bait. It will be best if you place it near the very bottom, because this is where bream most often look for food. This species is quite skittish, so you should be patient.
Regularly tossing the bait in a specific area should eventually have the desired effect. It is worth giving bream at least a week. In addition, it's important to toss the bait during the hours you intend to fish.
Method feeder is a very effective method of catching bream. When pulling the fish out of the water, it's worth being careful. If you do it too abruptly or break off one fish, you can scare away the whole herd. Good preparation and correctly selected equipment will make you perfectly cope with this task, and spring bream fishing will be extremely successful.
