When is it worth using classic baskets?

Classic feeder baskets will be ideal if you are fishing for bream, tench, carp or roach. This is because the design of the cage creates the so-called streaking effect, i.e. a bait pole with an intense scent. Thanks to its universal properties, you can use the cage basket in both still and running waters.

You just need to remember to choose the right size of the mesh for the specifics of the fishery:

• For a larger lake, choose those in a large size, with larger meshes and a round shape. This will allow you to fit a lot of bait inside. And through the larger holes the bait will get out faster. This will come in handy especially in shallow fisheries. You will then really quickly deliver the groundbait to the bottom. The best will be those round baskets.

• For flowing waters choose baskets with smaller meshes. This way the groundbait will not wash out too quickly. It is good to choose designs built on one side, for example, triangular or square baskets. Such models work best in shallower fisheries (up to about 3 m deep).

Match the basket load to the depth of the fishery

If you are hunting larger fish, they are usually closer to the bottom because they are more cautious. You then want the bait to reach as deep as possible, and at the same time - not to get washed out on the way. In this case, use a basket with a heavier weight. If you take a basket that is too light, the bait will be caught by small fish.

• Remember! The heavier the load, the faster the bait will reach the bottom. And there your chances for big fish increase.

A hint for feeder competitions

When you fish at a competition, remember that the organizers may specify a minimum weight of the basket. Usually it is 15 grams. So be sure to weigh it before using it. After all, it may turn out that the manufacturer's marking does not quite match the actual weight.
