What rod to take for carp?
When choosing a carp fishing rod, take into account the hints of experienced anglers:
-
Acarp fishing rod should be strong and st urdy, as well as relatively light, since towing a carp in itself requires a considerable amount of force.
-
The rod has to be stiff enough so that the fish does not break off, and at the same time flexible so that the rod does not break during the tow.
-
It is assumed that the length of the ideal rod for carp is 3.6 to 4.2 meters. Longer rods are recommended for more experienced anglers and those who fish at a greater distance.
In our store you will find many rods that are ideal for carp fishing. We offer poles made of graphite, carbon or fiberglass. Feeder enthusiasts recommend such models as the Mistrall Sicata Method Feeder 60 g 3.6 m and the VDE-Robinson MX3 Distance Feeder rod 4.2m 150g. These are rods from proven brands that will not let you down while fishing.
What hook and line for carp?
When choosing a hook and line, it matters a lot how big a specimen you are hunting. It is also important to match the size of the hook with the thickness of the line:
-
Tying a hook that is too big on a thin line will not allow you to use it to its full potential - the line simply may not support the weight of the fish.
-
Too small a hook on a thick line is also a problem. A small hook will bend and you won't pull out a big fish.
As you can see, every time the decision is up to you and depends on your goal. In a nutshell, it can be assumed that:
-
For small carp, a set of hooks 16-14, such as Drennan Acolyte Carp Circle No- 16 on 0.14 mm line, will suffice;
-
for slightly larger specimens, prepare a 14-12 hook, such as Kamasan B911 Eyed Barbless 14 on 0.18 mm line;
-
for large carp, have a 12-10 hook - Flagman Ultra Feeder Bream Carp Series r10 on 0.20 mm monofilament.
Line or braided line - which is better for carp?
The question "Line or braided line for carp?" is the subject of many heated disputes among feeder anglers. Well, that there is no one universal answer. Among our customers there are supporters and opponents of each method.
In general, feeder lines may be a better choice for beginners, since carp give a fairly definite indication of a bite. The line's cushioning and stretchiness is somewhat forgiving of a too-late strike and offsets mistakes made during hauling.
Experienced carp anglers and feeder anglers fishing at distances of more than 40 meters often appreciate braided line more. It does not delay signaling, and in addition, it allows you to observe the "rubs" of fish, since it practically does not stretch.
Anyway - the choice is up to you. In our store you will find both at a very good price.
Choose the reservoir where you will find the carp
The key is to choose a fishing spot. Throughout Poland you will find farm ponds, where, as a rule, it is easier to find carp. However, you will get more satisfaction from catching it in a natural reservoir.
Carp are found in most lakes and ponds; they also occur in free-flowing rivers. However, they are fish with specific feeding areas, which are not abundant. That's why before sitting down you should find a place where the chance of meeting your dream specimen is the greatest.
When planning a carp hunt, focus on:
-
reed beds,
-
thickets,
-
areas of fallen trees,
-
trees growing over water (especially when there are leaves and fruits on them),
-
terrain near islands.
Carp are very fond of hard underwater hills. When looking for their feeding sites, look out for the characteristic bubbles they release when swimming close to the bottom, as well as the movement of reeds or the leaves of thickets.
Once you have found the best spot, you can now begin to bait the position.
Proper baiting is half the battle
Carp are omnivorous fish with a large appetite, and they are also quite picky. Therefore, the bait must be intense in smell and taste. Carp like worms, corn, roll, cake, but also high-quality pellets and protein balls. They like the smell of vanilla, coconut, banana, strawberry and krill.
For baiting, it's a good idea to use ready-made bait, such as Champion Feed-Wonder Black 2 kg, mixed with river clay (for example, Mountain River clay 2 kg). It will also be good to add corn and protein balls to it.
Many experienced carp anglers always carry some kind of booster, for example, Method Booster MatchPro Pineapple 100ml. It can be used in many ways. It is useful for flavoring the bait, but also for pouring the already finished method basket or bait balls. Remember to create a heavy sticky mixture, because larger specimens do not particularly like slow floating elements of bait.
And what will you put on the hook? Here you have quite a lot of room for improvement, and everything depends on your ingenuity. White worms, worms, corn, but also pop-up balls (such as Kullo Ringers Orange Chocolate PopUp 8/10mm), or the already mentioned pellets will be good.
As for the use of protein balls, it is popular to use the so-called snowman. This involves putting both a sinking ball and a floating ball, or pop-up, on the hook. It's a balanced method that makes it more likely that a wary carp will get caught. Snowmen are also particularly effective in fisheries with heavily silted bottoms or with heavy vegetation.
